This Circular Handpainted Ceramic face sculpture is in the style of Contemporary Mexican artist Yuri Zatarain. This type of piece is often titled "Luneta Ojos Abiertos" (Moon with Open Eyes). Signed J. Alvarez, this work exemplifies authentic Mexican Studio Pottery from regions like Tonala and Oaxaca. Alvarez is celebrated for his distinctive almond-shaped eyes—rendered open or closed—often accented with subtle color on the lips or decorative details. This piece has blue in her face with red lips. It is in the minimalist style and simple elegant black line facial features. It looks stunning as a wall hanging or placed on a stand. They are generally from the 1970's-1990's. It has a 9.5" diameter and 2" Depth. Condition is Excellent - There are a couple of small hairline cracks near top right rear (not visible from front), no crazing. There is one minor chip on top portion of artwork (please see photos). A striking statement piece that captures the essence of contemporary Mexican ceramic artistry.
