These (10) Jefferson Nickels, also know as war nickels, were minted by the United States from 1942 to 1945. These coins are unique because they contain 35% silver, 56% copper, and 9% manganese. This composition change was made to conserve nickel for the war effort, as it was a critical material for military production.
