Imitation is the purest form of flattery and this set of shakers are quite similar to the hand-painted, comical chalkware sports figurines, by Lafayette L. Rittgers, who created those works primarily in the 1940's. His was usually chalk ware (plaster). This set is believed to be porcelain and most likely created in Japan. Each piece has distinct, somewhat crude/chunky appearance with oversized features, often referred to as original humor sets made of porcelain rather than plaster. Dimensions: 4.5"H x 2.5W x 1.75D. Condition: Overall Excellent with no chips or cracks. There is one area on left foot of baseball player that looks more like a defect in glazing than a chip and there is small amount of wear on cap/face of baseball player and face of umpire.
